১.৮. পিতর

পিতর যিশুকে তিনবার অস্বীকার করেন। পিতরকে যিশু শয়তান বলে গালি দেন। 

১. যিশুর শিক্ষা বুঝতে অক্ষমতাঃ 

বারবার একই জিনিস বুঝতে না পারাটা পিতরের একটা বৈশিষ্ট্য। বাস্তবে কারো পক্ষে এত বোকা হওয়া সম্ভব না। একজন ভাবতে বাধ্য যে পিতর যিশুর শিষ্যত্ব গ্রহণই কেন করেছিলেন! যিশুকে যদি মসিহ হিসাবে জানতে না পারা, যিশুর আগমনের উদ্দেশ্য না জানতে পারা, যিশুর মৃত্যু আর পুনরুত্থিত হওয়া কিছুই না বুঝতে পারলে ঠিক কিসের উদ্দেশ্যে পিতর যিশুকে নিজের মেন্টর হিসাবে নিয়েছিলেন। 

২. যিশুকে অস্বীকার করা। 

Thirteenth, in Luke 22:31-33 we are given an excellent example of why prayer is all but worthless. Jesus said, "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren. And he [Simon, otherwise known as Peter] said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."

 Jesus prayed that Peter would not desert him; but one need only read Matt. 14:31·, 16:23, and 26:69-70 to see that his prayers were to no avail. Peter denied him after the trial. How can prayers be of value, when even the supplications of God, himself, are of no use? Jesus asked but never received. He prayed for Peter's faith to endure; yet, Peter denied him when the chips were down. The efficacy of prayer is one of those elusive hopes that is held out in a kind of now-you-see-it-now-you-don't fashion.
